You'll have to check submission guidelines etc., but here's the list of approved publishers from Mystery Writers of America. That gives them some credibility as a publisher.

39??!! Oh, to be young again! <Snicker.> Energy starts to really flag after 60. I can still get things done, but I need my sleep much more than I did when I was younger. So I finally quit my second job, after over 20 years of working at least 2 jobs. And I don't push myself as hard. I'm coming to really understand the word "mañana" as it was explained to me by my professor in Spanish 1. He told me it means "Any day that is not today--but not necessarily tomorrow." LOL.

My God, girl! All God's chilluns be busy, but YOU more than most! I didn't start writing seriously until all 4 of mine were in school. Working 2 jobs, I didn't have the time. How you can write with such little ones in the house, I have no idea! Good for you--you must be extremely organized--or young enough to be able to do without much sleep.

And I know you're young because I have no idea how Tik-Tok works, and little desire to learn. New technologies baffle me, and social media just sucks my time away that I want to use for writing.

To each their own. May we all find our readers, no matter how we connect!

I agree. Many of us have other skill sets related to writing. A list of resources would be great for someone looking for say, a ghost writer, or an editor, cover artist, etc.

I think a document file of services offered would be fine. I have nothing against ghostwriters. I just don’t want this group to be about nothing but promo. I like how information and support is shared between the group.

Hi, Tracey! Alana Albertson is doing the mini-course for free in my group. When she's done, I'm going to ask her if I can put it all into a file and save it there. She also has a much longer paid course you can buy here: https://alana-albertson.mykajabi.com/offers/gkGuQGZV/checkout

Re: StoryOrigin: What do you get for $100/year

Carly Carson

I haven't put a lot of work into Story Origin, but here is my limited experience.

I signed up on another author's March promo to get reviews. I liked the fact that when someone requested my (free) book to review, I could see details on them and agree to give them the book or not. This way, I saw that of the half dozen or so who requested the book, only 2 had actually ever reviewed anyone's book. I didn't accept those with no history of reviewing.

I did accept the 2 reviewers, and one of them actually reviewed the book. Getting one review was pretty underwhelming to me and I decided not to pay for the service.

I'm not saying it's a bad service. I like some aspects of it, but I didn't have enough time to really experiment before committing money.

Carly Carson

I was over at StoryOrigin downloading a review book, and started getting
a hard sell from the website.

So those of you who use the paying version of the platform - what
exactly do you get for $100/year? Do you feel that it's worth it?

Thanks!

Warmly,
Lisabet

The MFRW Facebook group has had a couple people post offers to ghostwrite. Thanks to the diligence of Emerald, our main Facebook monitor, the posts are being held for moderation. Other services are offered on the group, so it isn't as if we never allow anything to be shared that is an offer of service. But what is your opinion about ghostwriting in general being offered?

My questions:
1. Do we allow offers for ghostwriting on the group? If we don't, why not? Are we being snobs about writing everything ourselves and think everyone else should too?
2. Should we add a document in the files that lists services? (a one-stop document for who offers what). Members could edit and add their info. It would give us a place to see who does things we need (like a PA, Facebook ads, editing, etc.).

Feel free to respond here. I think this is something the group should discuss, which is why I'm sharing it.

Thank you for your willingness to share ideas and thoughts.
